Sept 12 - 19 Annual Mayors' Grand River Cleanup

Streets and sidewalks accumulate litter which will be washed away into drains and waterways if we don’t stop it. In urban areas around the Grand River the “first flush” of pollution after a rainstorm can take less than 15 minutes to reach the river.

Removing litter from our environment becomes increasingly difficult and more expensive the farther it gets from its source. Taking action to remove the trash within your community will ensure a swimmable, drinkable, and fishable future for the waters we all share.

Sign up as an individual, a small group of friends or family, or as a business to take on this challenge!

ONLINE REGISTRATION for the Mayors’ Grand River Cleanup opens Friday, July 17th, and will close Wednesday, September 16th. Registration is required to receive cleanup supplies.

There will be a lot of changes this year from the Mayors’ Cleanup you know and love, so check out the Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any additional questions please contact info@wmeac.org.

Not sure where to cleanup?

Check out our Stream Site Map for points to access the Grand River and its tributaries. Click on any point on the map for additional details.

Our streets and storm drains, local businesses and parks can all contribute pollution into our waterways. You are welcome to clean trash anywhere. These sites are suggestions!

Each site is rated by its safety and accessibility:

  • Green sites are family-friendly locations with easy access to the shores of the river.

  • Yellow sites are not recommended for children 12 and younger and boots and pants are suggested.

  • Red sites require boots, pants, and poison ivy or fast-moving traffic may be present.

Know of a spot with a litter problem? Send an email to Kyle Hart at khart@wmeac.org with details about the location. If it is suitable for volunteers we can add it to the map!
