Kent County (Draft) Sustainable Business Park Master Plan

  • Frederik Meijer Gardens 1000 East Beltline Avenue Northeast Grand Rapids, MI, 49525 United States (map)

The recently released Draft of Kent County Department of Public Works’ Sustainable Business Park Master Plan describes the future management of trash in Kent County and West Michigan. The Kent County DPW has set out a bold vision for shifting the way municipal solid waste is managed, away from significant landfilling, toward a 21st Century Sustainable Materials Management system. The projected $500M project will see 250 acres adjacent to the South Kent Landfill developed into a Sustainable Business Park to house facilities to recover discarded materials, to reuse and recycle recovered materials, and to convert non-recyclable materials into products or energy.

In this presentation, Dar Baas, the Director of Public Works, will outline the Draft Master Plan process, review possible Sustainable Business Park Concepts, and update attendees on progress toward the DPW’s waste diversion goals.

The seminar is located in the lower level Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Foundation (FMGSF) room.
