What Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Is and How It Is Defined
MC Sgt. Jeffrey D. Boller, Michigan State Police HazMat Division, Special Programs Section, Hazardous Materials & Investigation Unit, will provide a primer on how HazMat is defined along with a walkthrough of a HazMat inspection with case studies of the good, bad, and common mistakes to avoid.
HazMat Response
Donald Simota, Vice President Operations at Michigan Spill Response, joins us to share information about the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials. He will discuss spill cleanups, industrial cleaning, and the use of vacuum trucks to provide safe and efficient hazardous material removal, transportation, and disposal.
Waste To Energy
Paul Smith, Waste to Energy Operations Manager, Kent County Department of Public Works, will discuss their Waste to Energy (WTE) operations and administration.
EGLE Division Update
We will also be joined by Wade O’Boyle, EGLE's Grand Rapids District Liquid Industrial By-products (LIB) and Hazardous Waste Inspector, for a program update. In addition, EGLE field inspectors and technical specialists will be on-site to answer any questions throughout the workshop, and there will be time for networking and exhibitor interaction during arrival, breaks, and lunch.
Presentations begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a networking luncheon at noon with the balance of presentations following.

Exhibiting Opportunity
The fee for 2024 WM-AWMA Corporate Sponsors to exhibit is $250, non-chapter sponsors are $400. Each exhibitor will receive one eight-foot, skirted table and two chairs. Complimentary entry to the workshop and food are provided for one individual. Additional attendees are asked to register at the regular registration rates.
